Banquet

I love our banquet.  I already miss it all.  Photos courtesy of Pastor Greenawalt.

We had a great season, and I am sad that it's over.  But!  But, we will be back before you know it.

This is the end...

Well, the season has come to a close.  Beka and Maddie went to States and did all I expected and more.  Beka placed 37th (our highest female finisher ever) and Maddie was 91st as a sophomore.  Just a great job by both runners!  Here is the link if interested.

The banquet is tomorrow at 6:30pm and is a dessert only festivity.

I will talk.  The kids will talk.  We will share the end of another great season.

See you there!

Bittersweet is the taste...

We have two varsity girls who are headed to Hershey.  What a great day! The girls team placed 4th overall and had a day to remember.  Look at the results here to see how we did in all of the day's races.

Beka and Maddie are rock stars!

Many runners had P.R.s and that is the true measure of your day's effort. It is always hard to see the season close, particularly for the seniors, but to finish as we did was a real blessing.

Congratulations to all of our runners are a fine season and on wonderful careers.

Beka and Maddie will continue to practice this week to prepare for our trip to Hershey.  We will depart this Friday around 8am.  We will be staying at a Courtyard Marriott about 20 minutes from the race, which is at the Giant Center.

It will be a special day, next Saturday, as we race and try to get some gold in the chocolate capital of the world.

Jr. High Finishes Strong

Our Junior High season has ended. It's always bittersweet to end it all.  The results are here

Three medalists performed quite well:  Paige took 18th, Sam took 2nd, and Landon took 5th.  Not too shabby!

Districts for varsity is Saturday.  We leave at 7am sharp.  We will stop at Golden Corral after the race.  Bring some money for our post-race celebration.  All of the junior high is expected unless they have other plans (as their season is officially over).  We would like them all to see the event, though, if they can make it.

Jr. High:  Please wash and pack all of your uniform after Districts and bring to my room next week some time.

Region 3 Invitational and D10 Championship Packet

Last Saturday was a pretty good day!

Our varsity girls raced a good race to finish 3rd, right where they were in the Tuesday Region events.

Our boys were 8th, ahead of CASH, just like during the Region events, as well.

Our Junior High Boys crushed it!  They were first (by a good amount) and also claimed the Region 3 season title.  We were tied with Rocky Grove with losses (1), but since we had beaten them, we were declared champs.

Individual performances:

Varsity Boys:  Gabe D- 19:12, 17th; Devin N-20:45, 38th; Nathan D-20:51, 40th; Isaac L-20:52, 50th; Erik Murphy-21:48, 53rd.

Varsity Girls:  Beka M-21:13, 2nd; Maddie M-22:05, 5th; Karley P-23:21, 18th; Karleigh S-23:22, 19th; Emily S-23:55, 23rd; Erika C-24:08, 25th; Cassidy B-26:00, 35th; Lexie V-28:57, 43rd.

Jr. High Boys: Sam H-10:17, 1st; Landon C-10:30, 3rd; Ryland L-11:19, 8th; Conrad W-11:31, 11th; Ed H-12:43, 29th, Quincy Z-14:26, 51st; Toby G-14:53, 53rd; Ezra M-18:53, 60th.

Jr. High Girls:  Paige F-12:10, 3rd; Kylie B-12:32, 4th.

We had 8 medalists.  It was a good day!

The Junior High is in action for the last time this Wednesday--see information above.

The D10 Championship is this Saturday at Buhl Park (Sharpsville again).  We are hoping to get a few qualifiers for the State Championships in Hershey the following Saturday.  The information for Saturday is posted above, too.

We will eat at Golden Corral after the race (bring money).

Region 3 Results

What a nice season.  After all of our Region 3 conference meets, we are ready for the post season.  Here are our results:

Varsity
B - 1-7 (first win in two seasons)
G - 6-2 (another great season, but not enough for the title)
Jr. High
B - 7-1 (may have won a share of the Region title)
   G - 0-4 (not enough for a team)

Our Region 3 championship is coming up at Maplewood next Saturday.  I think we are ready to do very well.

EXTRA JR. HIGH MEET

Good news!  We have found an additional meet for the junior high runners.  On Wednesday, OCTOBER 25th, our junior high runners will be participating in a "District 10" championship race at Union City High School.  See the information above for details.

There is no official championship for junior high runners, but most of our district attends this event as a simulated D10 championship race.

So mark your calendars as we are going to go and see what we can do.  Varsity will attend the event, too, and practice at Union City.

Also, this is the last official event for junior high, so they will not be required to be at practice after that day.  They can come and attend (and we highly encourage them to do so) the D10 championship that varsity runs on the 28th, as it is our last event unless we have a runner or team make it to States.  And we have a legitimate shot at that, too.

Home Meet

Just a reminder:  we have a home meet on Tuesday, so we need snacks again.  Please bring or send in whatever you can.  Thank you.  Our last home meet went very well.

Franklin Meet

The Franklin tri-meet is at Sandycreek Elementary School, across the road from Franklin High School.  Races should start at 4pm.

Cochranton Invitational 2017

Here are the results for the Cochranton Invitational 2017:  Results Here

We had a great day.  Many runners had PRs which speaks volumes as to our training and work ethic.  When Cochranton's course is dry and the running weather is optimum, you can have a great day there.  We did!  I am so proud of you!

This Tuesday we are at Franklin.  Let's go see what we can do there.  It's an easy, flat course and ripe for fast times.

Sharpsville Invitational Results

The results from last Saturday are here.

Overall, a pretty good day though we only had 16 race out of our 27 runners.  We are resting and getting ready for the end of season events.

Medalists from Saturday (5 strong!):

Jr. High Girls - Kylie, 26th; Paige 37th.
Jr High Boys - Sam, 3rd; Landon, 6th.
Varsity Girls - Beka, 28th.

Also, a shoutout goes to Devin who crushed his PR by running a 19:46.

Good job runners.

Check out the information for the Cochranton Invitational, our last Saturday event until the Region 3 championship.

Please check out the information provided for the Sharpsville Invitational.  Race times are different from the usual for this event.  Elementary runners race at 9:45 followed by Varsity Girls at 10am, then the Boys go at 10:30ish.  The rest we don't really know certainly until race day.

Check out the information above, please.

Also, our Varsity Girls are now 3-1 in Region 3. BOOYAH!
Junior High Boys are 4-0.

We are at the halfway point of the season and looking for great things to come.

Home Meet Results

The race went off without a hitch because of all of you!  Thank you.

The junior high girls took first and second in the race:  Good job Paige and Kylie.

The junior high boys are now 2-0, led by Sam Hetrick's win, Ryland's 3rd, and Landon's 5th.   Good job by the entire team.

The varsity boys are 0-2, but some had PRs today--good job!

Our varsity girls are 1-1, led by Beka's first place finish!

Overall, a good day.

We race Saturday and next Tuesday, as well!  We are in it.

Dakota--you inspire us.

Thank you Mr. Greenawalt for the photographs in the slideshow!

Home Meet Tonight

Thanks to all who have offered help this evening for our first of two home meets. Rocky Grove and Titusville will see us doing our thing out here.

We just received word that the CASH Eagle Invitational scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16th has been canceled.  We are attempting to gain entrance into the Behrend Invitational held that same day.  More information to follow...

McDowell Invitational

The McDowell Invitational went as well as can be expected.  We had four medalists and the girls team took 12th place out of 19 complete teams.  We will get better as we rest more and get healthy.

The results are here.

Our medalists were Beka, Gabe, Sam, and Landon.

This week we will practice Tues-Fri with no race Saturday.  Our first tri-meet is next Tuesday and it is home.  We will need to provide snacks and water/gatorade for that event.  Any parent help would be appreciated as well in helping make certain the event goes off well.

Our biggest goal is to win tri-meets.  Let's get to it!

Thanks to Pastor Greenawalt for the photos from McDowell.

No Practice Friday

As is traditional before our first Saturday race, we will not be practicing. Please remember to turn in your hoagie order forms to coach, though.  Please sell your ten as a minimum.

Also, Spirit Wear orders are due next Tuesday as we do not have school on Labor Day Monday (and we won't be practicing either).

It's going to be a great day at our race on Saturday.  The first one is always very cool.

Please remember that if you plan on taking your athlete with you from the invitational, you MUST sign out with one of the managers.  Only a parent can take his/her own child.

Upcoming Week

This week we are practicing from 3:05 to 4:45.  The 2nd time trial went quite well as those of you who could make it saw. I've uploaded some photos (taken by Darrel Greenawalt), so let me know if you can't access them somehow. Blogger has changed its system for linking photos again.

We have a race at McDowell this Saturday--check out the sheet on the invitational for more information.

And here we go with school, again.  Please have your runners hydrating throughout the day as much as possible and have them eat a snack after school (prior to practice) to give them the energy they need for practice.

Very excited!

It was great to have Dakota with us Saturday, as well...quite the great surprise.

The Season Looks Bright

Our 2nd Time Trial is coming up tomorrow.  We will be wearing our uniforms to see how we look!

Also, on a side note, I will snap a team picture at some point early in the season and give everyone a copy of that photo as their team photograph.  If you are interested in individual photos, I can recommend several local photographers, but we will not have individual photos this season, just like last season.

Additionally, remember hoagie sales forms are due next Friday, September 1st. Please sell at least 10 so we can use this as our only fundraiser this season.

Spirit Wear order forms are out as well.  You can also print a form from above for that, if interested. The deadline is September 5th for those to be turned in so we can get your order back asap.

AND--OUR TEAM LOOKS GOOD.  WE ARE GETTING BETTER.  I'VE ALWAYS BELIEVED IN THE GROWTH MINDSET...MEANING THAT IF EACH OF US GETS A BIT BETTER/FASTER, THEN THE TEAM WILL CLEARLY BE BETTER.

First Saturday Time Trial

Very positive signs from our first day of "racing." We have plenty of room for improvement, but we had a good day.

This coming week, we will have more of the same with a concluding Time Trial on Saturday.

Time Trial #1

Time Trial 1 is tomorrow.  We will blow the whistle sharply at 9am.  Arrive by 8:30 at the latest to get your pre-race routine going.  We will be done after all finish.

It's been a good, hard week. Tomorrow we show off!

Day 4-Long Easy

We ran for an hour straight today. It's always good to see the victory on the faces after a very long run. A good day.

Wednesday, August 16, 2017

Day 2

A good day again.  800s are hard.  The varsity boys ran 8 of these, the girls and jr. high boys did 6, and the jr. high girls 4.  Lots of water and breaks help, but it is just hard.

We are trying to convince our bodies that "our new normal," that is a lot of running, is acceptable and okay. Our bodies can do much more than we think they can.  It just takes a bit of convincing.

Good practice overall.

First Practice Impressions

We've got one in the books.  The runners ran a 10-minute pre-warm-up, followed by our stretch routine.  We then ran the course for our actual warm-up (varsity=3.1 miles; jr. high=2.4 miles).  We came back, had a break for five minutes, and followed that up with our CORE routine.  Next, we went to the track for our one mile time trial to get our goals for the rest of this week's interval workouts.  We ended with 8x20 second strides, and then 5x100 sprints.

Tough day, but all looked good!

Gabe set the bar with a 5:08 mile, Beka had a 6:15, Sam had a 6:00, and Paige hit 7:13 for our fastest time trials by gender and varsity/jr. high.

Tomorrow we hit the 800m intervals as our speedwork.

Impressions:  We have a great group of runners, a few new faces (always nice!), and did well.  We need recruits, though.  Ask your friends to come join the fun.

FAMILY BUSINESS!

Parent Meeting - Wed (8.16) at 6 at SES pavilion.

Bring back your 3 forms tomorrow - Rules sheet, transportation form (fill in XC because they gave me the wrong form), and the Student-Athletic Handbook (back page).

First Practice

You must have a submitted physical form (blue) to the nurse's office for you to be able to practice next Monday.

Season Fast Approaching!

SHOUT OUT TO DAKOTA PRICE!  OUR CONTINUED PRAYERS WILL WIN THE RACE.

Our season is nearly upon us.  I am very excited!  We begin on August 14th at 8am in front of the school.  Arrive early the first day--7:45 or so.  Be certain you have had a completed physical form (blue one) submitted to the nurse at school before then, OR YOU CANNOT PRACTICE.

We practice from 8-11 M-F of both weeks before the start of school:  8.14 - 8.18 and 8.21 - 8.25.  Also, we practice on Saturdays both weeks from 9 until 10 or so (these practices are "race days" which simulate our Saturday race invitationals).

Keep coming to Open Gyms on M-F at Woodcock Dam from 8-9 and 5-6pm with Ashley on Tues. and Thurs.

Lots of Open Gyms!

Track and Gabe

Congratulations to Gabe on his win at Judith's Jig.  Some of our runners participated in honor of Shea's mother, Lenee Dixon, at this race on March 18th.  Good job Ryland and Shea on a job well done! Here are the results:  Judith's Jig 2017 Results

Also, our first ever SHS Track Club is underway.  We have 11 participants and all is going well.  We run at the school on Mondays and Wednesdays, then at the track at MASH with Fuzzy and Ashley on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Friday and Saturday, we run on our own.

We will see how it shakes out.

Lenee Dixon

The coaching staff (and families) and many runners attended the viewing hours for Lenee Dixon today. We purchased a nice bouquet of flowers in honor of this wonderful spirit, the mother of Shea.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dixon family, especially Jack and his children.  Shea's Cross Country family will continue to love him and be there for him.

Open Gyms

Open gyms are upon us.  We are running from 3 until 4:15 after school on Mondays and Wednesdays.  We run outside regardless of weather.  If we can't run outside, we will cancel for the day.
