Mud Run

This Saturday (tomorrow) there is a Mud Run being held at Slippery Rock University. There are two races. A serious race and then the Mud Run. Of course we like to do the Mud Run. The purpose of the Mud Run is to get as muddy and to have as much fun as possible. This is a great way to celebrate the end of the season. The race starts at 10:15 a.m., we plan on leaving from the park-n-ride at 8:45 a.m. The races costs $15.00 and if you would like a shirt that is another $12.00. If you plan on running make sure you bring a set of extra clothes, shoes and a towel to dry off with. We usually stop at McDonalds afterwards, so bring a few bucks for that. I hope to see a lot of you at the park-n-ride at 8:45 for a few hours of fun in the Mud!

Great Banquet!

The bittersweet end to the season always comes along with the banquet.

What a wonderful way to reminisce about the season and reacquaint one last time.

Check out the photos! (when I can get them up)

STATE CHAMPS! What a great weekend!

On Saturday, November 2nd, the boys from Saegertown won the 2013 Boys A PIAA State Championship.  What a day it was!  Lots of links below to check out!

I am so proud of the team--it takes a remarkable commitment to achieve the glory of a gold medal.  Well done, boys.  Well done!

Of course:  Woot! and Yay!

A special shout out to the community members who braved the weather and darkness to see our boys being led by firetrucks through town.

The boys won this for the whole town and area.

Be sure to check out the video of the boys' interview.

Also, congratulations to the girls for racing their final race.  A good day was had by all.

Great article in the Meadville Tribune as well.

Oh, the weather outside is . . . PERFECT!

Come dressed ready for the cold and wet.  Welcome to Districts at Buhl Park.  One thing is for certain:  our runners are used to this and always practice in all conditions.  Where's the ball?  It is 3.1 miles away buried in the mud and muck of a field in Sharon.

For Junior High, A Fitting End . . . For Varsity, One Down

SHS XC really stepped up today.  What a day.  What a great day for all of us.

In the journey that is our season, we advanced further today.  For junior high, we excelled.  The boys won the Region 3 crown, going 8-0 this season, and capped it off with a decisive victory today.  Our four girls today ran incredibly well today as they did all season.

Varsity girls--Breanna finished 13th.  Booyah!  We knew it was coming.  Rachel and Jessica are always improving; they make me smile.

Varsity boys--one down, two to go.  Congratulations.

Another Win

Congratulations to our Panther Harriers!  We found the ball.  Our boys varsity team went 2-0 last night going undefeated for the 6th straight year, a string of 50 consecutive Region meets.  Our Jr. High Boys went 8-0 winning the Region title, as well!  Booyah!  The Jr. High Girls went 5-3, going 5-1 since having a full team.  Our varsity girls had its third member run her first race, in Rachel, yesterday.

Our next race isn't until October 19th, the Region 3 Invitational, at Cambridge Springs.  More information regarding that to follow.

Pics have arrived.

Update

The blogger system is currently experiencing some errors, so I haven't been able to update the photos, etc.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  I will update as soon as those issues are worked out by blogger.

On another note:  our teams are looking very sharp; we are still progressing toward our end of the season goals.  We are not there, however.

Jr. High Boys:  6-0
Jr. High Girls:  3-3
Varsity Boys:  6-0
Varsity Girls:  0-6

As you can see, we are performing very well, overall.  This next Tuesday we have a chance to wrap up two Region titles again.  That speaks well for our runners and our team.

This is the Junior High teams' penultimate event.  We hope for good things.

Cochranton 2013

What a grand day for SHS XC.  Boys Junior High takes 3rd!  Our boys are coming together--most set new PRs and certainly are showing their panther pride!  The girls were 5th with Beka winning the race!  And what improvement from all of the girls.

Varsity--both Breanna and Jessica improved beyond any expectations.  And we are still getting better.

The boys won!  And what an awesome performance it was--Morgan takes 2nd, Brendon 3rd, Brad 5th, Wyatt 13th, and Garrett 20th.  Chris and Lloyd both aced the course as well.  And we won the team title without Alex and Matt.

And we are still getting better.  We really are!  Check out the photos from Mr. Ferguson and Mrs. Fleischer.

Great Weekend For All of the Teams

Sharpsville was a mess.  It usually is; the bright side is that it is good preparation for Districts, as the weather is usually the same.  Here is the link to the results:

Blue Devil Invitational 2013 Results

At Hershey, the weather held off, and we placed 2nd in a very tough race.  We have met our match in Masterman, but they are beatable and we are still getting better.  Look at the point differential at the 1/2 way point:

No practice on Friday! Enjoy and rest. Unless you're driving to Hershey for 5 hours--then plan on a safe and uneventful ride. Wink. Wink.

Big Wins Tonight at Cochranton

Varsity boys win both handily, along with JH boys. JH girls split and are now 1-3. The boys' teams are both 4-0.  All of our teams race Saturday at important courses.

Cross Country is a sport of endurance. And it takes character to endure the ups and downs of a long season. Why are our teams consistently good? Because we endure. We come together when others fall apart.

Endeavor to persevere.

Pics to follow thanks to Mr. Ferguson.

Weekend Information

I will post more information about this weekend later this week.

Cochranton Meet

The races tomorrow take place at the elementary school, not the high school. 4:00 is supposed to be race time.

Rocky Grove and Beyond

Our Junior High boys win! 2-0.  Our Varsity boys win! 2-0.  Breanna had a fine day.  Our Junior High girls took 1, 2, 3, $ 4, but alas, because we don't have a 5th, we lost.  That is a sad thing.  If we could get just one more girl, who took last, we would still win.

Our varsity boys beat Maplewood 26-33.  It was a tough contest.  We certainly stepped up.  What is really nice is that our 3-7 positions are constantly changing.  This means we are always ready to beat anyone.  Our season started today.  It was a good start.  Good win Panthers!  All the way around.

Pics to come soon--thank you Mr. Ferguson.

Rocky Grove

Rocky Grove Information is listed above.  It is a big day for us.  All Region 3 meets are important to us.  Come and see us.  Cheer us on.

Red, White, and Blue . . . Not so blue.

Great day in Pittsburgh.  First in small school division in A, 5th including AA schools, and 12th overall with 65 teams competing.  Also, our lone varsity girl improved greatly today, and several of the junior high members were able to witness a wonderful event as someday soon they will be competing here as well.

The Rest of the Early Parts . . .

Pretty good time trial!  We found the ball.  We have new goals, though.  Never rest on your achievements.  Be happy.  Be proud, even.  But it is a long and winding road.  And the "real" ball is still nearly out of sight.  I can dream about it.  Can you?

Tomorrow We Ride

On Tuesday, we venture to the unknown.  It is a place where we discover things that we have yet to learn about ourselves.  It is 1/2 mile from the school and is where the reckoning occur.

Tomorrow, we head to the hill.  And then we ride.

The Docs at the Top Work Now

You should be able to access all of the above documents now.  I've fixed the issues.  I will continually post information in the Documents area when I am able.  Click and see!

Plans . . .

Sunday is a day for a long easy run:  60 minutes for varsity and 30 minutes for junior high runners.  Take it easy, stretch out the legs, and enjoy the scenery for a change.  Tomorrow we will most likely have a time-trial to make up for Saturday's missed one.  Good times!

Week One . . .

Just finished our first week.  Another great one.  No practice tomorrow as the field is being sprayed with pesticide.  No warning.  Grrr.  We will persevere.

Thursday, August 15, 2013

It was another great day . . .

Day 4 was an hour long run as the main body of our workout.  It was a wonderful day; all did very well.  I'm very pleased with our progress.  But, we are a long way from where we need to get.  Running a race is a lot like a life.  We are still toddlers.

Soon, I will be uploading the schedule, etc.  Keep checking back.

Day 3 Down. We Are Better Than You Might Think

We have completed 3 days of hard work and we are right where we need to be.  Other than we would love to have more runners, that is.

Our top varsity boys are running between 10 and 14 miles a day.  You wouldn't think it possible, but they are doing it.

We have a long way to go to come together, but we are getting there.

Find the ball.  Get the ball.

Be a leader.  Make a play.

You're crazy! (a runner's favorite compliment)

Tomorrow we start speed work. You should be tired and a bit sore. That is normal. Are you ready? Did you run your evening minutes?

And It Begins . . .

Find the Ball.  Get the Ball.  Be a leader.  Make a play.

The fun begins Monday, August 12th, 8am sharp.

SUMMER IS HERE--OPEN GYM SCHEDULE and PHYSICAL DATES

Happy Summer to all.  Here is the summer schedule for Open Gyms:

At school:  Monday and Wednesday
                    8am to 9am

At Woodcock Dam:  Tuesday and Thursday (with Coach Fuzzy)
                    6pm to 7pm

We run for approximately 45 minutes and do ab work for the remaining time.  Please have your rides drop off and pick you up promptly.

If a coach can't make it, this site will update that, but our upperclassmen are certainly able and expected to organize and "run" the open gym.

PHYSICAL DATES: (AT SCHOOL)

 June 12th & July 17th from 9:00am to 12:00pm

Also, all runners should be working to get "in-shape" ready for the fall.  All runners should be working to get 4-5 runs in per week.  1-2 should be around an hour.  Push your limits:  run on varied terrain, make one a hilly workout, make one a tempo run.  Just push yourself.  This is a physical and a mental exercise, of course.

I WISH TO SEE YOU ACCOMPLISH ALL YOU ARE CAPABLE OF--AND THAT IS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.   And that, my dear runners, begins with running frequently, with teammates if at all possible, and with the mind of a runner.  I look forward to my runs.  You should, as well.
